What an EMBA Tells Employers about You
By Helen Vaudrey
Updated UpdatedEnrolling in an EMBA sends out all the right signals to current and prospective employers. To gain an EMBA, students need to be tough, hardworking, and skilled and display excellent managerial talent – all of which are obviously desirable attributes to employers.
For those in the know, the advantages of having an EMBA graduate on board are self evident, but here is a breakdown of some of the ways a company benefits from hiring a person with an executive MBA qualification.
Drive and determination
Not just anybody can pursue an EMBA. The dedication and drive that is required to complete the program means that students must be highly-motivated and ambitious individuals. While studying an EMBA, students are also holding down full-time jobs outside of the classroom and still need to find time to juggle these with their personal life.
An EMBA can require quite a lot of sacrifice due to the competitive nature of the course. Personal time becomes a luxury and time with family and friends will likely become scarcer too. Many EMBA students travel to different continents to pursue study and are required to stay in a hotel with their cohort while they immerse themselves in the course on long weekends.
As such, employers will recognize your dedication to your career and future potential by completing an executive MBA program. The sacrifices that students are required to make while they study is more than compensated for when they return to the workplace with skills the company benefits from.
Leadership skills
Developing leadership skills is the nucleus of the degree and the driving force behind all topics of study. Every component of an EMBA, such as financial analysis, practical projects and networking, is designed to ultimately make you a competent and effective leader.
Improving one’s management and leadership skills is the primary reasons that people pursue advanced business education degrees and is a paramount reason as to why companies supply sponsorship and finance to employees who wish to pursue an EMBA. If you can effectively handle a team then you will be able to drive profits and create a cohesive work environment. Many programs require members of a cohort to lead other members in a project so that they can implement their managerial practically with other business students.
By the time a job interview or promotion opportunity rolls round after graduation, you will have built up enough leadership skills to impress your employees with thanks to your EMBA degree.
International experience
International experience is being prioritized more and more on executive MBA programs. In an increasingly globalized world and business landscape, it’s important that managers and entrepreneurs are aware of international business markets and customs.
In present day, ambitious business professionals know that they must have international experience if they wish to generate huge profits. To do this, then gaining international experience while studying is paramount.
It is perhaps for this reason that huge numbers of MBA and EMBA students travel abroad to complete their studies. By showing that you are capable of coping with life in a foreign environment while gaining a top quality education, your employers will see that you do not shirk from taking on new challenges.
If you do not travel abroad to study, then your program will likely provide study trips abroad so that you can get experience with international companies. Week-long residencies in other countries allow you to visit various companies and immerse yourself in the business practices and customs of a different country. Employer’s value people who are knowledgeable about international markets.
